Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie, got another opportunity at the PNC Championship this weekend, an event the two have frequented over the years. Any event with arguably the greatest golfer of all-time is going to draw tons of attention, but this time around, it was Charlie’s play that stole the show.

The 14-year-old prodigy delivered a chip-in birdie during Sunday’s round and nobody had a bigger smile than Tiger.

Are Tiger and Charlie Woods winning the PNC Championship?

No.

Team Woods is currently tied for fifth at -19 through two rounds. The pair did play incredibly today though, posting a score of -11 on Sunday, moving them up six spots in the standings.

The top spot currently belongs to Team Langer from Germany, who shot 12-under par in Round 1 and are 13-under par through 16 holes in Round 2.

What else has Charlie Woods done today?

A better question would be, “What hasn’t he done?”

The younger Woods is reminding every golfer in their mid-20s that they will never actually be good. At 14 years old, he’s hitting shots like this.

And THIS!

AND THIS!!!

That’s 321 yards to the green, and Woods knocked it over the green. Insanity!

Team Woods may not have won, but at least they need to know where they can improve for next time.

It’s always the greens that get you. You can place a 6-iron shot three feet from the hole from 200 yards out, but missing that follow-up putt is what separates the winners from the teams that go viral on Twitter.

Tiger Woods is a proud father as he gets ready to compete alongside his son Charlie in an Orlando, FL golf tournament on Saturday.

Tiger, 47, and Charlie, 14, hit the golf course on Friday morning for a practice run while preparing for the PNC Championship’s Pro-Am event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

And in a video shared by the PGA Tour’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the legendary golfer is seen admiring his son’s skills during their morning practice.

After Charlie’s impressive shot, Tiger decided the duo would end their warmup round on a high note.

“We’re ending on that one right there. That was f—ing nasty,” Tiger said in the video.

According to Golf Digest, Tiger couldn’t stop smiling while practicing with his son, who he welcomed with ex-wife Elin Nordegren in 2009, and the duo enjoyed catching up with some of the golfer’s old friends on the course during their morning outing.

The outlet reported that Tiger exchanged “bear hugs” with Annika Sorenstam, Steve Stricker and Mark O’Meara while out with Charlie, and the group’s spirits were high during the reunions.

Charlie and Tiger will face Justin Thomas and his father Mike in the first two rounds of the tournament, teeing off at 8:22 a.m. on Saturday in Orlando, Florida.

This will mark the fourth year Charlie and Tiger have faced the Thomases, and in 2021, Tiger said the two father-son duos “have become so close that I think Charlie’s like Justin’s little brother he never had,” in an interview with the PGA.

“And Justin has become the little brother I never had,” Woods added at the time.

And when Justin and Mike won the competition in 2020, they enjoyed a petty victory lap over Charlie and Tiger. According to the PGA, the Thomases wore their victory belts over to Tiger’s home for Christmas dinner.

“We enjoyed that,” Justin said at the time, per the PGA. “Until they get that belt and we don’t, I know that we have the forever bragging rights for the time being.”

In November, Charlie competed in his first-ever high school state golf tournament, and helped lead the Palm Beach Gardens team to their fourth state title.

After a competition earlier this year in which Tiger served as a caddy for his son, Charlie said in a post round interview that it was “great” to have his father supporting him on the golf course.

“We just stay in our own little world,” he said about his dad joining him.

“We take it one shot at a time,” Charlie continued, adding that his dad “puts me in my place” from time to time. “I’ll talk about the next tee shot and he’s like, ‘No. This is the shot we’re going to focus on. Focus up. This is what we’re gonna do.’ ”

The winter break may be underway, but there is still plenty happening in the world of F1 as the dust settles on a 2023 season to remember. Most of the eyes will be on Red Bull when the cars return to the track for testing as the reigning champions look to cement their considerable advantage.

Christian Horner’s team won 21 of the 22 Grands Prix that took place during the 2023 season with the only other race win coming from Ferrari after Carlos Sainz pipped Lando Norris to victory in Singapore.

There was far less to celebrate in the Mercedes camp. The Silver Arrows may have pipped Ferrari to second place in the Constructors’ Championship standings, but the unpredictable behaviour of the W14 frustrated both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell throughout the year.

Charlie Woods is just 14 years old, but he has been in the national spotlight for virtually his entire life. That spotlight will only get brighter as long as Woods follows in his father’s footsteps and pursues a golf career.

The younger Woods has been playing golf since he was an infant, much like his father, and he’s old enough now that he is getting the opportunity to play alongside his father in notable events. Charlie and Tiger Woods first played at the PNC Championship in 2020, finishing as runners-up a year later, and they are teaming up again for the event this year.

For Tiger, the PNC Championship marks another step in his return to golf. He underwent ankle surgery after withdrawing from the Masters in April and didn’t play a competitive round again until an appearance at the Hero World Challenge two weeks ago. There’s no doubt the opportunity to play with his son helped motivate him during his rehab.

Here’s what you need to know about Charlie Woods’ golf prowess and where he ranks among his age group.

How good is Charlie Woods at golf?

Woods may not be the phenom his father was at such a young age, but he has a pretty impressive track record for a 14-year-old golfer.

On the Junior PGA South Florida Tour, Woods has finished in the top 20 in six of eight events this year. He is averaging a score of 76.67 as part of the Boys 13-18 Medalist Tour this year, which ranks 71st. Considering Woods is firmly on the younger end of the age group, that’s a fine mark at this point.

Here’s a closer look at Woods’ results in 2023, including two finishes right at the top of Hurricane Junior Golf Tour events.

Charlie Woods ranking

Woods ranks 38th in the Boys 13-18 Medalist Tour in 2023 with 481.87 points. Well over 200 players have competed on the tour this year, so he has impressed to this point. Woods ranks ninth among golfers from the high school class of 2027 on the tour.

It will take some time before Woods gets to the point that he can be ranked among all golfers worldwide, but he certainly has the genes to make his way there.

Where does Charlie Woods play golf?

Woods has played on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour for the last handful of years, though he moved up to a new 14-15 age group this year. Woods also plays on the Junior South Florida PGA Tour.

In November, Woods won a high school state championship at the Benjamin School. He shot rounds of 78 and 76 as a freshman member of the team.

Charlie Woods lowest score

Woods recorded his lowest score in September when he shot a 66 at the Last Chance Regional as part of the 14-15 age division.

Tiger Woods’ lowest score is a 59, which he claims he shot at Isleworth Country Club just before the 1997 Masters. Charlie can set that magic number his goal, but 66 is a score to be proud of at such a young age.

PNC Championship - Final Round

Tiger Woods is set to tee off at the PNC Championship 2023 on Saturday. The ace golfer returns to the competition with his son Charlie for the fourth straight year. Ahead of the event, the 15-time major championships winner recalled the experience of playing with his son in the past.

Team Woods is currently at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club. Speaking on the Bridgestone Golf Podcast, Tiger recalled that he played the PNC Championship with his son for the first time during the COVID pandemic. The 47-year-old noted that there was “no one out there,” which led to him and his junior having ‘fun beyond their little world.’

Furthermore, Tiger recalled that Charlie got his introduction with tour players, past and present, for the first time at the event. He noted that his junior had the chance to listen to Lee Trevino speak about golf during the outing.

Speaking about his past experiences with Charlie at the PNC Championship on the Bridgestone Golf Podcast, Tiger Woods said:

“We first played during Covid. There was no one out there. So, we were having fun beyond our own little world. And he (Charlie) got to introduced to Tour players, past and present. I get a kick out of listening to Lee Trevino talk golf ball, call golf ball shots, swings everything. I just sit there and just listen. But Charlie got a chance to listen to him, he got a chance to ask a few questions and see the difference in generations.”

Tiger went on to laud the parent-child format of the PNC Championship. The PGA Tour legend stated that he is having “an absolute blast” playing with Charlie.

He added:

“But I think that, over all the years, from the year that I first watched the father-son to where it is now, the parent-child, the mannerisms are so cool to watch. Not just the way they walk, the swings, the swing rehearsals, the waggles, the leg crossing. It’s just so neat to be part of. And Charlie and I have had just an absolute blast doing it.”

Tiger and Charlie Woods’ past PNC Championship outings

Team Woods will go up once again at the PNC Championship this weekend. Despite playing three times, the father-son duo is yet to win in the competition. Tiger and Charlie made their competitive debut as a team in 2020. They finished solo seventh on the leaderboard.

Notably, Tiger and Charlie’s best outing was recorded in 2021. They made 11 consecutive birdies, before falling short in the final round. The Woods lost to John Daly and his son John Daly II by just one stroke.

The duo had a forgettable outing last year. Tiger and Charlie finished T8 alongside the pairing of Jordan Spieth and his father, Shawn. Vijay Singh and his son Qass lifted the trophy last year.

It is pertinent to note Tiger and Charlie are currently the favorites to claim the title this weekend. The duo comes into the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club event at 11/4 odds, according to UniBet. It’ll be interesting to see how they fair against the competition.

If we take Anthony Joshua at his word, the heavyweight division could be in for some explosive, exciting nights over the coming years.

The two-time unified champion sat down with TNT’s Laura Woods to promote his fight with Otto Wallin on the massive upcoming ‘Day of Reckoning’ card in Saudi Arabia.

Asked to describe Tyson Fury, Francis Ngannou and Deontay Wilder with a single word and to then describe how fights between he and his heavyweight rivals would play out, Joshua spoke about his peers more candidly than we are used to hearing.

After describing Fury as a “diva,” a relaxed Joshua spoke freely about how and why he would beat ‘The Gypsy King’ if and when they meet.

“Good fight. Too quick, too strong, he can’t lean on me, can’t throw me about and I’m explosive. I can knock people out. I knock a lot of people out.

“No, it won’t be early, he’s a good fighter but I’ll be there. I’ll be there 100%.”

How about Francis Ngannou? The former UFC heavyweight champion shocked the world by dropping Fury and giving him all the trouble he could handle during their crossover ‘Battle of the Baddest’ in October. Fury may have been far from his best but Ngannou’s remarkable performance was arguably the most eye-catching professional debut of all time and the Cameroonian made sure that he will be a high profile and extremely lucrative option for the top heavyweight fighters for the foreseeable future.

“Inspiration,” said Joshua when asked to describe him. “His story. If you can’t take motivation from that and inspiration, I don’t know what would drive you in life. What a story he has.

“War. The first man to land is going out. The battle of the body builders. Tyson Fury can stay at home.”

Finally, Joshua was asked about his long time rival and co-star for next week’s extravaganza in Saudi Arabia. Joshua and long time WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, have circled each other for close to a decade. Although both fighters have suffered defeats, it seems impossible to imagine a fight between them being anything other than a don’t blink shootout.

The plan is clear. Should Joshua get past Wallin and Wilder come through a tricky looking test against former WBO champion, Joseph Parker, a fight between the two most explosive elite heavyweights in the world should happen next year.

“Bronze,” Joshua said when asked for one word to describe Wilder in a clever play on his ‘Bronze Bomber’ nickname. “Not gold. Just general. You’re not gold.”

Despite his lengthy and spectacular highlight reel and proven fight ending power, Joshua isn’t sure whether Wilder would hit any harder than Ngannou but believes that the fight would indeed be a short, violent affair.

“The same as Ngannou [a war],” he said.

“You know what it is in heavyweight boxing? Every heavyweight hits differently. Some have got a thudding power. Some have got a slapping power. Some have got a punch that you never see coming. There’s a variety of different power so I don’t know.”

Tiger and Charlie Woods are the latest father-son duo to share a spotlight in U.S. sports

The PNC Championship tees off Thursday, Dec. 14 and will feature 20 professional golfers and a family member competing at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Course in Orlando, Florida. One of the headline pairs for this year’s PNC Championship are Tiger Woods and his son Charlie.

The two first competed in the PNC Championship in 2020. Tiger and Charlie finished second in the 2021 PNC Championship, two strokes behind winning Team Daly (John Daly and John Daly II).

Tiger and Charlie Woods will be back on the course again looking for another strong result. They’re the latest father-son duo in golf and in American sports to play together. Here’s a look at some other notable father-son duos who competed together in other sports:

Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. (baseball)

By the time Ken Griffey Jr. was named the U.S. high school baseball player of the year in 1987, his father had won two World Series and made three All-Star teams. The Seattle Mariners drafted Griffey Jr. with the first overall selection in the 1987 MLB Draft and Griffey Sr. helped negotiate his son’s contract.

Griffey Jr. made his debut on April 3, 1989 and the duo made MLB history as the first father-son duo to play in the majors at the same time. The Cincinnati Reds released Griffey Sr. midway through the 1990 season and signed with the Mariners to close out the season with his son. They became the first father-son duo to appear in the same lineup (Aug. 31, 1990) and hit back-to-back home runs (Sept. 14, 1990).

“Being a father, I guess it’s a dream come true,” Griffey Sr. said at the time, per MLB.com. “This is the pinnacle – this is the thing in my career that I’m very proud of – very proud of. You can talk about the ’76 batting race I was in and all that. But to me this is No. 1.”

Gordie, Mark, and Marty Howe (hockey)

Gordie Howe retired from the NHL in 1971 as the greatest player in the sport’s history. Five decades later, Mr. Hockey remains with the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr as the greatest NHL players of all-time.

After 25 years with the Detroit Red Wings, Howe retired due to a chronic wrist injury and moved into the Red Wings’ front office. Two years later in 1973, the newly formed World Hockey Association (WHA) came knocking.

Both of Howe’s sons – Mark and Marty – were playing for the Houston Aeros and wanted to sign the legend as well. Surgery on his wrist cleared the way for the trio to play together in the newly formed league. Howe won the Gary L. Davidson Trophy in 1974 – given to the WHA’s most valuable player – and won the WHA title that year. After another title in 1975, the trio signed with the New England Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes) in 1977.

Mercedes are looking into the considerable pace differentials between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at different races throughout the season after the latter discussed his confusion over the big performance gaps experienced by the two drivers on a week-to-week basis.

The two Mercedes drivers were split at 11-all in the qualifying head-to-head battle following Russell’s impressive display in Abu Dhabi, although neither of the pair were happy with the state of the W14’s development come the final race of the year.

Despite Hamilton having the upper hand in more of the races, there were plenty of occasions when Russell would be the more dominant driver throughout a race weekend before the pendulum would swing again at the next event.

“It’s definitely something we’ve noticed,” Russell explained after the final race of the season at the Yas Marina Circuit. “Lewis and I, over the course of the year, I don’t think we’ve ever been at the same pace.

Serena Williams has served an ace of determination with her unwavering competitiveness. In her two-decade-long tennis career, she has stood out as an embodiment of what competitive edge looks like. Recently, her childhood coach, Rick Macci, who has seen her grow in the sport, talked about how the 23-time Grand Slam champion was even ready to move past her elder sister in the spirit of her competitive nature.

Venus and Serena Williams both entered the tennis circuit around the same time, but somewhere down the line, the 42-year-old American legend spread her wings bigger than her elder sister. And now, Macci talked about how, since the very first day of her picking the racket, her competitiveness has made her what she is today.

Serena Williams’ former coach talks about competitiveness

In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, the 69-year-old American tennis coach talked about his perspective on the game and, along with that, highlighted some unknown facts about the players he has trained, including the Williams sisters. While talking about the iconic sisters, he talked about one key aspect that made the 23-time Grand Slam champion different from her elder sister.

He said, “It was her competitiveness. It didn’t matter, if there was like a piece of chicken on the table she pushed Venus out of the way to get it. She had to be the first to take a drink. She was always like had to be first, she was so competitive.”

In addition, he also addressed the fact that the 43-year-old American was quite great in the game; However, Serena Williams’ personality was something that made her stand out of the crowd and even move past her elder sister. Macci stated, “The only thing when she was a kid sometimes, she wasn’t sticking to it as Venus because Venus was more mature.”

Further, he didn’t stop there and highlighted that, whether on or off the court, the younger sister’s competitiveness gave her an edge in her house. However, a few months ago, he also discussed the same context, drawing out the only real difference between the legendary sisters.

The real difference between Venus and Serena Williams!

Earlier in October, Rick Macci took to his Instagram account to make a huge revelation about the only real difference between the sisters. He tweeted, “The only Real difference between Serena & Venus Williams, is they have a different First name.”

Along with that, he completed the statement, saying that they are just the amazing two Compton peas in a pod and a pair of sisters like no other. He concluded his statement by saying that even though both are champions on the athletic front, they are even more amazing human beings in the real world.

Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on Rick Macci’s confession regarding the Williams sisters? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Lewis Hamilton has paid tribute to Michael Schumacher in a new German documentary about the Ferrari legend, labelling the fellow seven-time F1 world champion as simply a “full out great racer.”

Hamilton raced in Formula 1 against Schumacher for three years when the German came out of retirement in 2010. The Brit then replaced the German at Mercedes following the 2012 season.

Now, Hamilton has contributed to an upcoming documentary to air in Germany, titled Being Michael Schumacher, nearly 10 years since Schumacher suffered a near-fatal injury during a skiing accident in Meribel, France.

Hamilton also referenced Schumacher’s victory at Imola in 1994, on the day his hero Ayrton Senna tragically died following a crash.

“A full out great racer,” said Hamilton, in tribute to Schumacher.

“He won the race when Ayrton died. [He was just] winning everything!”

Hamilton and Schumacher hold the record for the most Formula 1 world championships with seven apiece.

In the same documentary, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso also lauded how Schumacher changed the way drivers approached Formula 1 and their preparation for races.

“I lost more against him than I won!” said the Spaniard, who claimed his two world titles at Renault in 2005 and 2006 during Schumacher’s final years at Ferrari.

“He is an incredible driver, he was an inspiration for all the drivers of my generation when we were in karting and in the junior formulas to see Michael dominating the sport.

“He did change the way of approaching racing, physical preparation, determination, work ethic into the weekend with the engineers, a lot of things in the sport changed because of Michael – for the better.”

Schumacher’s wife Corinna has insisted on protecting his privacy since the accident in December 2013. He has not been seen publicly since, with his medical condition shrouded in secrecy as he continues to recover at home.

Being Michael Schumacher, a German-language five-part series, airs only in Germany on 14 December on ARD’s media library.
