Tiger Woods will be reteaming with his son Charlie at the 2023 PNC Championship. Woods has made no secret of how much he is supporting Charlie on his path to a career in golf. The work includes the technical stuff, but also the mental preparation.

In an interview with Golf Digest, Tiger Woods described how his father, Earl, worked with him when he was starting out in golf. Among the things Earls Woods insisted on most was that his son be prepared to face any kind of mental challenge. Tiger hopes to pass these teachings on to Charlie.

“It’s non-stop, non-stop. It’s trying to get him — if I can get into his head, that means someone else can get into his head,” Woods said. “It’s going to get to a point where I can’t get into his head, and then no one else can get in there either. That’s what my dad believed. You’ve got to be willing to take it.”

Tiger Woods claimed that when he started out in golf, players did all kinds of things to get in each other’s heads. He hopes Charlie will be prepared to face the challenges that come his way.

Tiger Woods and his son Charlie at the PNC Championship

The 2023 edition will be the second time Tiger Woods will team up with his son Charlie at the PNC Championship. The first time was in 2022 when Team Woods finished T8.

Tiger and Charlie had an outstanding first round, finishing T2 with a score of 13-under 72. They finished just one stroke behind the transitional leaders, Justin Thomas and his father.

Team Woods’ first-day performance included one eagle, 11 birdies and zero bogeys. They had a nearly flawless front nine, with six birdies and an eagle.

But they were unable to repeat their performance on the second day. The duo finished the round with a score of -7, with one eagle, seven birdies and two bogeys. Their overall score was 20-under 124 and tied with Team O’Meara and Team Spieth.

Tiger Woods will arrive at the PNC Championship after returning to the courses at the Hero World Challenge. Charlie, on the other hand, arrives after winning the Florida State High School Team Championship.

The 2023 PNC Championship will be played at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida from December 14-17. Twenty duos will participate, each consisting of a Major champion and a member of his or her family.

The field will be made up of players from all eras, including current PGA Tour stars such as Woods and Justin Thomas, LPGA Tour players such as Nelly Korda, PGA Tour Champions players such as John Daly and Bernhard Langer, and others who are less active in competitive golf such as Annika Sorenstam.

Ahead of Tiger Woods’ return to action in the Hero World Challenge, reports have emerged which states that the veteran golfer is set to feature in multiple tournaments next year. For most of 2023, Woods has been away from action due to injury concerns. In April, he suffered an ankle injury and underwent surgery and is now set to mark his return in the forthcoming Hero World Challenge Albany, Bahamas.

Thus, Woods is now looking to make up for the lost time and is targetting to play 5-6 tournaments in 2024. As per a post from NUCLR Golf on X, formerly Twitter, Taylor Zarzour confirmed that the legendary American golfer could play in “five to six regular tournaments” in 2024. One of the biggest reasons for Woods sounding so optimistic is that he cited the lack of pain while walking and, hence, is confident of more participation.

WOODS TO RETURN TO LIMELIGHT IN HERO WORLD CHALLENGE

Talking about Woods’ return to spotlight at his own Hero World Challenge event, in Bahamas, his opening round will take place on Thursday, with the veteran set to tee off at 11:52 a.m. ET. He’ll play the first round alongside his close friend Justin Thomas. It will be interesting to see how Woods fights all odds and makes a mark in his first-ever tournament since competitive return post a long injury layoff.

Irrespective of how he fares in the Hero World Challenge, Woods is looking set to once again try and become the competitor that he was going ahead with more tournament appearances from now on.

Tyson Fury is refusing to back down in his argument with talkSPORT, having recently banned the broadcaster from a press conference.

The Gypsy King is currently preparing for his fight with Oleksandr Usyk, with both men confirming a new date for that showdown earlier in the month.

February 17 was announced as the day when Fury and Usyk will finally slog it out for the heavyweight title, with boxing fans around the world excited about the upcoming bout.

However, talkSPORT were banned from the event with Fury taking issue with the opinions of some of their pundits and guests.

The 35-year-old also banned talkSPORT from being in attendance as he beat Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia at the end of last month.

However, there seems to be no end to the feud in sight.

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, spoke to the broadcaster and insisted his client was refusing to back down.

He also targeted Adam Catterall, insisting his opinions were to blame for the row.

“That you’re going to have to speak to him about, I can’t move it forward,” he said.

“He’s got his views and he’s where he’s at, but I’ve been trying to explain this and even up until a couple of minutes ago you’re still criticising.”

Catterall attempted to explain himself, saying: “But that’s an opinion, isn’t it?”

Yet Warren continued his war of words and said: “You can have an opinion and everyone’s entitled to an opinion.

“But sometimes there should be an informed opinion and sometimes you should listen to what’s going on and hear what’s going on.”

They did, however, end the segment amicably.

Fury’s brother, Shane, recently condemned talkSPORT and singled out Simon Jordan for criticism.

“When you try and earn a living off someone, you have to be half sensible,” he said.

“talkSPORT and Simon Jordan will never have anything to do with Tyson again.

“The biggest fight in history is coming up and he might have done 100,000 views on some stupidness that he’s said, it is what it is.

“I’m sure he will do something else, but he won’t be working with Tyson.”

And Warren also said earlier in the month that the ban was ‘fair’.

“Do I think it is fair,” Warren told Boxing Social.

“Let’s put it into the reasons why, because of the negativity and so forth that came from them.

“The bottom line of it was there were presenters on there who said they would not watch the fight, they had no interest in the fight, so, its no loss then is it.”

Fury is now looking ahead to his showdown with Usyk.

Both men have unbeaten records in boxing so far, which only adds to the excitement.

Fury has won 34 of his 35 bouts, with a draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018 the only blot on his record.

Usyk, meanwhile, has won all 21 of his fights – with 14 of them coming via KO.

Maybe the reason Tiger Woods is returning to competition next week in the Bahamas is to prepare for what really matters: The father-son appearance in the PNC Championship

PNC Championship Woods Golf

Tiger Woods is returning to the PNC Championship, the 36-hole event that has become one of his favorites because of his partner: His son.

Woods and 14-year-old Charlie are playing the PNC Championship for the fourth straight year, the one tournament he has not missed during the last injury-plagued four years.

“It is an amazing gift to be able to share my love of golf with Charlie and we genuinely do look forward to playing in the PNC Championship all years,” Woods said Wednesday. “Competing together, against a field of so many golfing greats and their families, is so special.”

The PNC Championship is Dec. 16-17 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando at Grande Lakes.

Woods and son were runner-up in 2021, just 10 months after Woods badly damaged his right leg and ankle in a car crash in Los Angeles. They finished seventh in their 2020 debut and tied for eighth last year.

Woods is to play next week at his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas for the first time since surgery to fuse his right ankle in April after the Masters. Because the PNC Championship is run by the PGA Tour Champions, Woods is allowed to ride in a cart.

The tournament is for major champions or winners of The Players Championship. It began as a father-son outing and now has gone modern, with tour players having sons and daughters, grandchildren, even parents as their partners.

New to the field this year is a formidable pair of Steve Stricker, who won three of the four majors he played on the PGA Tour Champions this year, and daughter Izzi, a state high school champion in Wisconsin.

Padraig Harrington is playing for the sixth year, this time with youngest son Ciaran instead of Paddy.

“It was actually Ciaran watching Paddy and I play together out there these last couple of years that really ignited his passion for the game, which shows what a very special event this is,” Harrington said. “He must have watched me play in hundreds of events over the years and it has taken the unique atmosphere and experience of the PNC Championship to inspire him!”

Also back is Lee Trevino, who at 84 is the only player to have competed in the PNC Championship every year since it began in 1995.

Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton head down on the grid.

Damon Hill isn’t bursting with confidence about Mercedes’ 2024 prospects after Lewis Hamilton’s lacklustre response when quizzed on his hopes for next season.

As Max Verstappen romped to win number 19 of this season, crossing the finish line in Abu Dhabi 18s ahead of Charles Leclerc, Hamilton was down in ninth place, a further 26s back.

It was a disappointing end to a season in which Mercedes even went as far as to drop the zero-pod philosophy and go with the more Red Bull-esque bulkier sidepods in a bid to close the gap.

Damon Hill: He was not exactly effervescent about it

They didn’t, leaving Hamilton concerned about what 2024 may have in store for him and Mercedes.

“At this moment, I don’t really know,” he said when asked by Rachel Brookes if his team could challenge Red Bull next season.

“For Red Bull to win by 17 seconds in the end, and they haven’t developed their car since August is definitely a concern.”

His downbeat response has 1996 World Champion Hill worried.

“It’s a long hard year. And he’ll bounce back from that,” he said during the Sky F1 broadcast.

“But the worrying thing was when Rachel asked him about have you got any hope about what was coming. He was not exactly effervescent about it.”

The Briton, though, is confident Mercedes must have learned lessons from the past two years’ trials, lessons that should help them with next year’s W15.

“I think on reflection, I’m sure that they’ll come back,” he added.

“They’ve got to have learned something from the last two seasons, and they’ve got to learn something from this year that will mean that they’ve got some ability to take a change in direction.

“He motivated quite a lot of change in that team when they were persisting with their original car, and he’s gotten them to change and think differently.

“So I’m sure that the new car will have no resemblance to the current one.”

Naomi Schiff is more worried about Toto Wolff’s comments

But while Hill is concerned about Hamilton, it’s Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff’s comments after Abu Dhabi that have his fellow pundit Naomi Schiff a bit worried.

Interviewing the Austrian after the race, Schiff asked if Mercedes were “building on or starting from a completely new base” for next year which Wolff didn’t exactly answer, instead speaking about having “good things in the pipeline”.

Schiff said: “Look, Lewis has said on multiple occasions that’s where he wants to leave his legacy.

“So I think for now, there’s enough hope left within the team, the spirit, even with Toto was saying down the barrel of our cameras is that he has faith that they can turn the situation around.

“Of course, they didn’t this year, quite clearly the mood is still quite low.

“But I found what was interesting there about what Lewis said that it’s slightly disappointing to see that Red Bull at this point is still winning by 17 seconds.

“And the question that I was trying to get out of Toto was are they going to be building from this point on going into next year or are they going to turn it around much like Aston Martin did or McLaren did by completely bringing in something different that maybe brings them back to the drawing board?

“So I don’t know if that’s a little bit telling of the fact that they might still just be building? Hopefully not.”

Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian recently treated their daughter Olympia to an unforgettable experience at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Williams and Ohanian regularly offer glimpses of their exciting adventures with their daughters on social media, sharing highlights from their cherished time together. Ohanian, in particular, takes an active interest in Olympia’s extracurricular pursuits, often joining her in activities like Lego building, ballet and golf.

The couple recently took their daughter Olympia to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a popular destination for fans of the space-themed franchise at both Disneyland and Disney World. The family visited Savi’s Workshop, where they crafted their own personalized lightsabers.

Serena Williams documented the process of her and Olympia handpicking components for their custom lightsabers, offering a peek into the extraordinary experience. Ohanian also took to social media and shared his experience of guiding the six-year-old through the process.

“Coco Gauff is not Serena Williams, but she can win some Grand Slams” – Williams’ former coach Rick Macci

Serena Williams

Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, recently hailed Coco Gauff as the best female athlete on tour, comparing her athletic prowess to that of an Olympic-level sprinter.

“Coco, the best female athlete on the tour. She’s an Olympic sprinter with a racquet in her hand,” he said on the Match Point Canada podcast.

He added that the 19-year-old’s increased confidence had aided in concealing her “dodgy” forehand.

“The forehand’s a little dodgy. I know she kinda covered it up during the summer, but there’s a little bump there. But when you are confident, as you know, you don’t see it as much. But maybe, when you have the people change the pace, you’re not as confident,” he added.

Macci contended that although Gauff lacked Williams’ all-around power on the court, the reigining US Open champion was likely to win more Grand Slam titles in the future.

“So, she’s not Serena, but she can win some Grand Slams,” he said.

While discussing his former protege, Macci also praised the 23-time Grand Slam champion as one of the greatest female athletes in history.

“She’s the best athlete to ever hold a racket and maybe one of the best female athletes of all time. Big, strong, fast, quick, flexible, could do the splits. She also knew where you were going to hit the ball before you did. She had the rage inside, she gave me that look even at 10 years old. She had all the time in the world,” he said.

Joshua Plans to Re-enact Ali/Foreman’s ‘Rumble in the Jungle’

Anthony Joshua could revisit the Rumble in the Jungle as part of an “iconic” bout around the 50th anniversary of the legendary fight, says Eddie Hearn.

Promoter Hearn says talks have taken place over the heavyweight contender fighting in Africa, and that government backing for an event is available.

Joshua, 34, has Nigerian ancestry but has never fought on the continent.

“It’s something that would be iconic for the sport,” Hearn told BBC World Service’s Newsday of the proposals.

“When we’re visiting these countries, there’s government funding to stage these events.

“Sometimes that isn’t forthcoming in all areas but there have been discussions and I think it will happen in time.”

Muhammad Ali and George Foreman contested the heavyweight world championship in Zaire – now Democratic Republic of Congo – in October 1974 in one of the greatest fights of all time.

Both men were champions during the long careers that made them legends, with Ali knocking out Foreman in the eighth round to win the WBA, WBC and Ring titles.

Joshua held the WBA belt for a combined total of almost four years and has been IBF, WBO and IBO champion, although he is currently aiming to win back the titles he failed to regain from Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia in August 2022.

The Fury elder didn’t pull any punches when making his critique of Tyson Fury’s game plan against Ngannou

We all saw how Francis Ngannou really made Tyson Fury struggle when they fought, many even think he is the one who won the fight back in Riyadh. But we still hadn’t heard anything from John Fury and how he thinks his son Tyson tackled this fight. In a recent interview with Mail Sport, the Fury elder wanted to remind his son of everything he saw wrong with his game plan. Amongst the many aspects he considers could’ve been better, Tyson’s physical conditioning didn’t convince John that was optimal. Tyson Fury’s father believes his son should’ve moved better inside the ring, with better boxing skills on display that he never used during the fight.

During an extended interview with Mail Sports, here’s what John Fury said when asked what was wring about his son’s preparation: “There was a lot wrong with it. His physical condition could have been a lot better. The game plan – there wasn’t one. At the end of the day, he does his thing again. But it could have been a lot better. or my money, he hadn’t trained the way he should have done for that fight and I don’t mean physically, I mean a game plan. His game plan should have been box and move be clever, be witty, outsmart him, but what happened? He tried to break a ten tonne bulldozer with a toffee hammer.”

He continued: Tyson, he looked fat thin to me. His condition, his body didn’t look right from the off. He was somewhere else, Tyson. I don’t know whether he couldn’t get up for the fight. That wasn’t Tyson in there. He still does enough to win. He won the fight no matter what people think, but he made it difficult for himself with that game plan. It was f***ing stupid basically. You don’t meet an express train head on, do you? On the ability Tyson’s got, he should have trained for the back foot, slipping and sliding, the same style for when he fought Wladimir Klitschko. Then he would have made Ngannou look silly and he would have run out of ideas.”

Lewis Hamilton is still chasing a record eighth world championship, much to the annoyance of fan Serena Williams.

Serena Williams is backing Lewis Hamilton to win a record eighth Formula One world championship because she believes that the British driver should already have nine. The retired tennis great’s comment came after Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed that he was motivated by ‘personal anger’ in his efforts to land an elusive eighth title with F1 legend Hamilton.

The 38-year-old star has not won a race for over two years after Red Bull emerged as the dominant force in the sport, with Max Verstappen winning three consecutive drivers’ championships after Hamilton had won four on the bounce.

Speaking to the PA, Wolff said: “We are living in a hamster wheel where time passes so quickly that it doesn’t feel like it has been two years. You can see how quickly the pecking order changes. But, we have to look forward, learn from the past, and push now to make Lewis win quickly again. I have a personal anger and drive to make him win the eighth title because he should have it.”

The Mercedes boss’ comments were shared on Instagram before they were picked up on by Williams. Commenting on Hamilton, the 22-time Grand Slam champion wrote: “He should have had 9 already. But…lemme be quiet.”

It is not exactly clear which seasons Williams was referring to where Hamilton could have snatched another two world championship titles but the greatest British driver of all time has been denied the title on the final day of the season on no fewer than three occasions.

By far the most controversial was at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021 when Hamilton appeared to be on course for his fifth straight title before a late safety car incident allowed Verstappen to close the gap on his rival after race officials permitted the Dutchman to overtake backmarkers

Verstappen had jumped into the pits just before the safety car lap to put on fresh tyres and with a significant grip advantage he was able to overtake Hamilton on the final lap to land his first world title with Red Bull.

Respect appears to be mutual between Hamilton and Williams, with the Mercedes star taking to social media to pay tribute to the American after she retired from tennis in 2022.

On hearing her announcement, Hamilton wrote on Instagram: “Taking a moment before the race today to show my appreciation and gratitude to the greatest of all time,@serenawilliams. We will never see another Serena. She’s one of a kind. She came through like a wrecking ball and has been so spectacular to witness.

“I remember watching her and Venus at their first games with my dad on TV. Seeing such talented women dominating a field where no one looked like them gave me hope. They made me believe that superheroes are real, and they can look me and my family.”

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods will return to competitive golf when he is expected to participate in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas beginning Nov. 30, the golfer announced Saturday.

It will be Woods’ first start since he withdrew before the resumption of the third round of the Masters in April. Woods had surgery on his right ankle two weeks after the Masters to address lingering arthritis that was caused by injuries suffered in a February 2021 car wreck.

Woods, 47, will join 19 other golfers competing at the Albany Golf Club Nov. 3 to Dec. 3. The event is hosted by Woods and benefits his charitable foundation, the TGR Foundation.

Woods has been more visible in recent weeks, with numerous photos and videos surfacing on social media. He was seen caddying for his son, Charlie, at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship.

Afterward, he told the Associated Press that his ankle was fine but there were other were other issues.

“My ankle is fine,’’ he said. “Where they fused my ankle, I have absolutely zero issue whatsoever. That pain is completely gone. It’s the other areas that have been compensated for.”

Woods, who is tied with Sam Snead for most PGA tour wins with 82, has not played in the event since he finished fourth in 2019. While the event is not on the official PGA Tour schedule, it does gives official World Golf Ranking points.
